With rising gasoline prices and highway toll charges, one would think automobile sales, especially luxury vehicles, would be negatively affected, but that hasn't necessarily been the case in Puerto Rico, reports Caribbean Business (Oct. 26, 2005):

According to the "Automobile Retail Sales Report" prepared by Plaza Motors Corp., new-auto sales during the month of August, the latest numbers available, was 11,896 units, up 14.6% from same month last year, and 10% higher than July 2005. Year-to-date sales of 90,488 units reflect a 6.7% increase over the same period in 2004, when the industry sold 84,789 units. Despite concerns about the government's fiscal crisis, the effects of increased taxation on vehicles, as well as rising gasoline and toll charges, industry observers contend local auto sales are on track to match and even beat last year's record of 134,391 units sold;

The reason? Although attractive manufacturer discounts and special offers by local financing institutions certainly have enticed a large number of consumers to change their old car for a new one, the lack of a reliable public transportation system, plus the Urban Train's limited coverage area have turned the automobile into a necessity rather than a commodity in Puerto Rico. According to Department of Transportation & Public Works statistics, there are 2.5 million registered vehicles on the island. In fact, Puerto Rico has one of the highest concentrations of vehicles and paved roads per square mile in the world. Of the new units sold in August, 6,935, or 58.3% were cars and 4,961, or 41.7%, were sport-utility vehicles (SUVs), which include light trucks, pickups, and minivans.

Kelley Blue Book, the trusted resource for used and new car information, invites consumers to use its name and seal to help sell their vehicles.

As of today, consumers can log on to www.kbb.com, research the suggested private party Blue Book value of their vehicle and then quickly and easily print a personalized "FOR SALE" sign with the recognized Kelley logo.

When consumers decide to sell their cars, they turn to Kelley Blue Book to determine the fair, private party value. In July, consumers generated more than 10 million private party pricing reports on cars they were looking to sell or buy. As a champion of the transaction, the company now offers this simple tool to assist owners in selling their cars quickly and easily.

"With this new window sticker, sellers can compare their asking price to the trusted Kelley Blue Book value," said Stephen Henson, vice president of marketing, business development. "It helps build credibility and trust with any potential buyer."

The window sticker is topped with the words "FOR SALE" in large 30 point type, so that drivers at a car-length's distance can read the sign. The Kelley Blue Book seal and suggested private party value follows, letting potential buyers know the seller had done their homework.

The sign also includes the year, make, model, mileage and condition of the car, along with a list of the vehicle's standard and upgraded features. In the center of the sign is a large box with a dollar sign for consumers to write in the amount they are seeking for the vehicle.

To print a personalized window sticker, go to kbb.com and click on the 'Private Party Values' link on the home page. Quickly select the year, make, model and condition of the car to be sold. When the final pricing report is displayed, just click on the 'Print For Sale Sign' link.

Sell My Car

Richard Lide loves classic cars and he is currently building a classic car collection in his garage. While he loves all classic cars, he often buys some just to fix them up and sell them so he can use that money for cars he wants to add to his collection. If you are going to sell a classic car, these tips can make it easier.

Restore It
If you want to get the most money from your car you need to restore it and make it look as nice as possible. Many people enjoy restoring cars and are able to do so quickly and easily. A restored car often sells easier than one that needs work.

Take Good Photos
If you are going to sell your vehicle you need to make it look as attractive as possible. You want to get photos from different angles of both the interior and exterior, and of the engine and wheels. People who are interested in buying the car may also ask for specific photos.

Post Ads Online
You may have some luck selling your classic car by putting ads in your local newspaper, but you will reach more people if you advertise it for sale online. Make sure you take advantage of online classified sites and other websites that allow you to post your photos for free.

Selling a classic car isn’t always easy, but if you advertise it right and market it to the right audience, it can sell much faster. The above tips can help you successfully sell your classic cars like Richard Lide.
